Muzzle Brakes

Double H Gunsmithing installs and times muzzle brakes at our shop in Blanch, North Carolina. A well-chosen brake can reduce felt recoil and muzzle rise. We machine the muzzle when needed, time the brake so the ports sit where they belong, and check the install before you leave.

We offer two types of muzzle brakes: radial brakes and tactical brakes. Tell us how you shoot (prone, off a truck hood, bench, or general field use), and we will recommend which style fits the job.

Radial brakes

Radial brakes have holes all the way around the muzzle. They are slightly more effective at recoil reduction than a tactical brake in many setups. The tradeoff is that they can kick up dirt or damage soft surfaces under the gun, so they are a poorer fit when you shoot from the prone or off a truck hood or similar surface.

Tactical brakes

Tactical brakes have four ports and discharge to the sides. That layout is a strong choice when you shoot from the prone or off the hood of a truck, because less gas is directed straight down into the ground or the surface under the gun.

What we do

  • Thread and shoulder the muzzle for the brake you choose when the barrel is not already set up
  • Time the brake so ports are oriented correctly
  • Install a brake you supply, or help you select a radial or tactical option
  • Function-check the finished muzzle work

Related barrel work lives on our Rebarreling page. Suppressor-grade muzzle threads are covered under Suppressor Threading. Permanent attachment of a muzzle device is covered under Pin and Weld.

Pricing

Shop labor for threading, timing, and install is estimated for your barrel and brake. Brake prices come from the maker and can change, so we do not publish those figures here. Call or text for a current shop figure. Prices assume payment by cash or check unless we note otherwise. Lead times follow our general repair windows on the home page lead times table unless we give a different estimate for your job.
