Bolt Handle Threading
Double H Gunsmithing threads bolt handles and fits aftermarket knobs at our shop in Blanch, North Carolina. A common upgrade is a Pacific Tool & Gauge (PTG) teardrop knob on a Remington Model 700 bolt, which gives a larger, easier-to-run handle than the factory round knob.
Related bolt and build work lives on our Sako Extractor Installation, Rifle Builds, and Cerakote pages. Back to all Services.
What we do
We remove the factory knob, machine and thread the bolt handle, and install the aftermarket knob you choose. The photo above shows a stock Remington handle next to a finished PTG teardrop install. The close-ups below show the knob seated on the threads and the threaded handle with the knob alongside.
- Thread the bolt handle for an aftermarket knob
- Fit and install a customer-supplied knob (PTG teardrop and similar styles are common)
- Remington 700 and 700-pattern bolts are the usual work; ask about other bolt designs
You can bring the knob, or we can order one for you. Maker prices for knobs we order are separate from the shop labor estimate and are not listed here because they change.
Pricing
- Bolt handle threading labor: starting around $80 when you supply the knob
That figure is an estimate from similar past jobs and can vary with bolt design, finish work, or related machining on the same job. Prices assume payment by cash or check unless we note otherwise. Lead times follow our general repair windows on the home page lead times table unless we give a different estimate for your job.
What to bring
Bring the bolt or the complete rifle, fully unloaded. Bring the knob you want installed, or tell us which style to order. If the bolt or handle will also be Cerakoted, say so when you call so we can plan the sequence.
Getting started
Call or text 336-694-5739, or email [email protected]. Tell us the bolt type (for example Remington 700), whether you are bringing a knob or want us to order one, and we will confirm a rough starting estimate.
