Scope Mounting and Boresighting

Double H Gunsmithing mounts and boresights rifle scopes at our shop in Blanch, North Carolina. When you bring the correct bases, rings, and the scope, this work is usually available on demand.

This page is mounting and boresighting only. All boresighting is done at approximately 60 yards. It is not a full range sight-in. If you want the rifle zeroed on the range, see Range Work. A military Mauser that also needs a low-profile safety and a bolt-handle bend for eyepiece clearance is covered on Mauser Scope Installation. Red dots and similar optics on shotguns are covered on Shotgun Optic Installation. A custom Picatinny or scout rail fit and bedded to the rifle is covered on Custom Picatinny and Scout Rails. What we do

  • Degrease the base and ring screw holes and the screws before mounting
  • Apply blue Loctite to the base screws only
  • Mount the scope you bring on the correct bases and rings
  • Level the scope with a Straight Shot Segway reticle leveler
  • Boresight the mounted scope at approximately 60 yards with a SiteLite professional laser boresighter
  • Sell mounting hardware when we have suitable bases or rings on hand

We degrease those screw holes and screws before mounting, then apply blue Loctite to the base screws. We never apply Loctite to the ring screws, to avoid risk of damage to the scope during later removal. We level the scope with a Straight Shot Segway reticle leveler, then boresight at approximately 60 yards with a SiteLite professional laser boresighter.

Bring the bases, rings, and scope that fit your rifle whenever you can. If we have suitable mounting hardware in the shop, we can sell it with the job. What is on hand changes, and we do not promise a particular brand or that hardware will be available. Hardware is priced separately from the labor below.

If the bolt handle will not clear the eyepiece, or the rifle needs other work before a scope can sit where it belongs, tell us when you call. That is separate from this labor. Mauser-pattern rifles are described on the Mauser Scope Installation page.

Pricing

  • Mounting and boresighting labor: $30 when you bring your own scope
  • Mounting and boresighting: free when the scope is purchased through Double H

The $30 is labor for mounting and boresighting when you bring your own scope. If you purchase the scope through Double H, that mounting and boresighting labor is free. The scope itself is a separate purchase. Bases and rings are still customer-supplied, or we sell mounting hardware separately when we have it on hand. We boresight at approximately 60 yards with a SiteLite professional laser boresighter, which lines the scope up with the bore. A range sight-in is a separate service and is priced on Range Work.

When the correct bases, rings, and scope are in hand, this work is usually available on demand. If we cannot finish it during your visit, lead times follow our general repair windows on the home page lead times table unless we give a different estimate for your job. Prices assume payment by cash or check unless we note otherwise.

What to bring

Bring the rifle fully unloaded. If you are supplying the scope, bring it with the correct bases and rings for that rifle and optic. If the scope will be purchased through Double H, say so when you call. Bases and rings are still needed. If you hope to buy mounting hardware from us, call or text first and ask what we have on hand. We can tell you whether suitable bases or rings are in the shop. Stock is not guaranteed.

Getting started

Call or text 336-694-5739, or email [email protected]. Tell us the rifle, whether you are bringing your own scope or purchasing the scope through us, and whether you are bringing bases and rings or asking about hardware we may have on hand. We will confirm whether the labor is $30 or free, and whether we can take the job on demand at that visit.
